The Sioux!!! Home Page
They depended on the buffalo for everything.
They were made from groups called tiyospe. In those groups they hunted and fought in wars. When a child was born it was a grand event and for four days they would have celebrated. They learned by helping their parents do things around the village. Boys became warriors and hunters for the tribe and girls learned skills for marriage, prepared animal hides, cared for children and for their home. If a man wanted to marry a girl he would give that family a horse.
Religion and Medicine.
One sprit had power over everything the great spirit. Dreams were believed to come from the great spirit. There was only one medicine man per tribe. The medicine man performed ceremonies. Boys and girls went through the ceremonies to become women and men.
