How common is Conduct Disorder and what is the likelihood my child will have it?

It is more likely that boys will experience Conduct Disorder than girls, but girls can have it also. 6%-16% of boys in the general population will get Conduct Disorder, yet the rate for girls is only 2%-9%. It generally starts at an early age, or during adolescence. Some studies show that the earlier you get the disorder, the worse it could possible be. Fortunately, early treatment can prevent it from worsening. The earlier the treatment the better. Conduct Disorder is one of the most frequent disorders in mental health settings.

The Research Shows...

Recent medical research shows that young people with CD are NOT likely to have behavioral problems as adults, although it is possible that they will. Scientists and medical researchers are beginning to get a better understanding of Conduct Disorder and behavioral problems alike because of recent studies. They have found out that many children that have behavioral problems come from parents that had the same problems as children. Many people have said that treatment was useless and there was no way to prevent some symptoms. Studies show that routine treatment can prevent these symptoms in adulthood if started early.
