Coping With Deafness
People who are hearing impaired use different things to help them in life. They have special things to help aid them. People who have a disability of hearing, also have the disability of speaking, because they can not hear how to speak. Deafness is a kind of disability that you have to cope with since there is no cure. These are some ways to help the deaf.
Hearing Dogs- Just like guide dogs for the blind, they use dogs for the deaf. They help them when walking the streets, with the housework, and going to the grocery store without getting hurt.
Hearing aids- Hearing aids are prescribed by hearing specialists. They mold a special fitting hearing aid for your ear so it is comfortable. The hearing aids help you to hear more than you would normally be able to hear, though you are not cured.
TTY- Typing telephone- Since hearing impaired people are not able to hear, seeing them sign or reading their lips on the phone, they made a special phone for them. They are typing phones, almost like a computers. When the deaf person would like to communicate with others they simply type.
Special Schools ( For deafness)-There are many schools for the hearing impaired. At the schools the teachers also teach by signing to help the children understand. They are private schools for the deaf.
Sign language- The hand movements used to resemble the letters and words. They help the people communicate.
Translator-Translators are people who can hear and sign. They listen what people have to say, and then sign it. Many deaf people who do not go to special schools for the deaf have a translator.
Lip Reading- Some people can lip read or understand what the person speaking is saying.
