Parental Separation Counseling Help
for Children Koby has a difficult time dealing with her parents problems and eventual separation. We are fortunate to have a wonderful counseling program at our school. This page gives information for the family about divorce or separation. It includes an interview with our school counselor, tips for parents, and a list of books and web sites where the family can find information about this difficult time in their lives. INTERVIEW WITH OUR COUNSELOR-INFORMATION FOR CHILDREN Q. How do you help children whose parents are separated? A. I help them in small groups, by themselves, or even with the whole family. Q. What are the main questions children ask you about separation or divorce, and what are the answers you give them? A. They ask if it is their fault. I always say no! Another is, "What if my parents get remarried?" The answer is that they can work through that by talking to their family. Q. Are there any groups that children may attend to help with their family problems? A. Yes, children may ask their counselor, or see if there is a program in their area. Q. What is the main thing you tell children when they come to see you? A. Always talk about it. Try to accept the situation. Also, move forward in a positive way. |
