Bedrooms
Bedrooms are a very important factor in our lives. In fact, you spend one third of your life in it. This means that you probably don't want a drab boring bedroom as your own. You would neither want a bedroom that had your least favorite color theme or is so over crowded that you can't get to your bed. This means you will need to plan out your bedroom in order to get in what you want, but mostly what you need. Your room doesn't have to be just like your best friend's, even though you like theirs a lot. That is what keeps us different. It is important to get a look that you want because you spend so much time in it.
If you have a small space you may want to keep things as close together as possible. When you have a larger room it is good to give a little more space in between but you may want to leave room for extras so don't just space it out as much as possible.
If you have a lot of space then you may want to use some floor lamps or table lamps, but if you don't have a lot of space then you may want to look into ceiling lighting. In a guest room where you are also going to use it as a study, then you may want to use track lighting because in a study that is very nice and when the guests arrive it isn't going to look weird.
Before you go on to get the little extras to put in your room make sure that you have the following things a bed, a dresser or a closet and a side table for your bed. You will also need a mattress, a comforter and some pillows.
When you are designing a bedroom and you don't know what to do with the extra space in the corner, you may want to see if you could fit in a desk or a small sitting area. You could also put in a corner cabinet or a bookcase for extra storage space. You would want to fill this space so you could either get some more storage space or so that you can have some where to have some privacy, and lounge some where else than on your bed.
Look into your budget and the amount of space you have, it may
completely change the room! If you can't afford a nice chair or a desk, then
leave it open for some free space to fill up later or to just keep open, a nice
space to just move about freely in.
If your space is too small to accommodate any couch, chair, or desk and your room looks empty without it filled in then just look around in antique stores and junkyards for something. If it needs a repainting who said you couldn't do it? You can even make something yourself.
Another way to decorate your room is with color. You can paint you walls, or you can use your pillows, chairs, tables, lamps ext.
Now you might be asking, why do I want to have color in my room? Simple, color gives a feeling of you into the room. It shows your personality, just as you lay out will. Color also shows one of your most important favorite things, your favorite color!!!
When choosing a color theme, make sure you are careful that your color theme isn't going to get boring after awhile. Also make sure that it isn't a color theme that you aren't going to like in a year. Make sure that you color theme isn't too detailed, for example, blue forget-me-nots with pink centers, sure, it shows a lot of you favorite things, but are you going to be able to find other knick=knacks that have the exact same pattern and size? I don't think so. So stick with a basic color, navy blue, for example, and leave it at that. That way you can add you little things to it.
Another great way to decorate your bedroom is by your bed sheets and curtains. They can easily go with your theme and can come in many different styles, especially curtains. They can be hung many different ways and they can effect how much light comes into your room. The way you hang it will be based on how much light you want in the room.
Knick=knacks are a great way to decorate a room because they can be removed easily and they don't cost much. But, too many knick=knacks makes a room feel messy. You want to have room to lay things out and do other things in.
Knick=knacks also are great to have because they tell a little more about you.
Besides those things, you will also need a bedstead, pillows, bedside table (optional) a dresser, and knick=knacks.

keep things pretty natural and leave a lot of space for luggage, and/or and extra sleeping bag/ blow up bed. When you are planning for a guest to come it doesn't take much in the bedroom for them to feel welcome. A vase of flowers or a little card can go an extra mile. |

Furniture is not the only thing to consider when designing your bedroom. You also need to consider color. You will need to pick a color theme that you enjoy and that won't scream, look at me! You will probably want to look at soft tints of your favorite color. If you aren't sure what color theme to do because you are afraid of not liking it once your done, then paint your walls and furniture white or some other compatible color , and make your little things be in a certain color theme. |
Also, texture! You aren't going to want some scratchy bed sheets or some slimy walls! You are going to look for things that you think are comfortable to you. Bed sheets come in a lot of different fabrics. Satin, flannel, cotton, and a lot more! |
You also might have some wall space to use up. You can put up dry erase boards, chalkboards, cork boards, pictures, and posters to give your room an accent. You may also want to put in a book case, or a bedside table. Those are great ways to display some of your stuffed animals and such. |

One of the most important things that you need to consider is size. Not only the size of the room, but of your furniture, and of your windows and doors. You can not put a bed in front of your door and possibly easily get in and out of your bedroom. And no offense to those of you who do have a bed in front of a window, I personally think it looks really crappy, (exceptions necessary) So you need to look at a lot of things before you start. It helps in the long run! |
