The P-61 Black Widow flew
night missions. They put lights on it,so they could search
for enemy targets while they were flying. It could have a
pilot, a radar operator,and a gunner. Its wings were 66 ft.
from tip to tip.
The P-38 Lightning has
two engines and two tails. It was the first American plane
that destroyed a German aircraft during World War II. They
called it the forked-tail devil.
The P-63 King cobra was
built 3,600 times by the Allies, and the United States never
used it in battle. Russia used about 2,000, and France used
about 300. They also carried rockets.
The Curtis P-40
Warhawk was built by the United States more than 13,000
times during World War II. They shot down 286 Japanese
airplanes. The Warhawk had shark teeth painted on the
plane's noses.
