As the war looked like it finally might be ending, the big three felt it necessary to meet again to discuss how to end the war with Germany and Japan and postwar arrangements. The chosen site was Yalta.

The major issue at this conference was of the Soviet occupied countries. Britain and the United States wanted Russia to allow the people of that country to decide their fate. Stalin made it very clear that he had no intention to let that happen. They also decided that Berlin would be divided into four sectors. (Soviet Union, Great Britain, United States, and France would each have a sector) The next main issue was with the United Nations. The United Nations will basically take over for the League of Nations as the International Peace Keeping organization. The United States insisted that the first meeting take place in San Francisco so as to insure that the United States would be involved with that organization.
