The assassination of Sergei Kirov, the Leningrad Party Chief, in 1934 signaled the the beginning of the Great Terror. Starting in 1935, Josef Stalin persecuted anyone thought to be against him or the state. Suspects are arrested and, without proper trial, shot or or sent to the state prison camps. This act of terror shows what a ruthless dictator Stalin really is. We believe that his role in the war that may come will be a huge one and possibly and dangerous one.

Stalin was born in 1879 under the rule of the czar. He played a very active role in the October Revolution. His role lead him to become the People's Commissioner of Nationalities for the first Soviet government and a member of the Communist Party Politburo. After Lenin suddenly died in 1924, Stalin became the cut throat leader of the USSR. He worked hard on keeping his enemies down and the country up. He enters the period we are discussing as a loved leader and a person that could play a huge role in the events soon to happen.

We believe that with Stalin at the reins of power for the Soviet Union, the Soviet Union will be a vital part of keeping a war out of Europe.
