"The Russians lost the war in eight days," Hitler declared after his Nazi war machine started to tear apart the
Soviet Union. They had taken over many pieces of the Soviet land and were only 220 miles away from
Moscow. The Soviets were As time passed and the Nazi's got closer and closer to Moscow, Stalin was hoping that the Soviet's greatest ally would help them out, winter. The first sign that their ally was coming was in Leningrad. There were many different natural barriers that were causing the Soviets in Leningrad top survive. Lake Ladoga kept the Finnish army out and bogged them down. Although the Finnish had recaptured the land lost in earlier battles with Russia, they still fell short of their goal of taking Leningrad Stalin was however making defense impediments-barbed wire, anti-tank ditches, and many others barriers to keep Germany out. Stalin also went on the offensive by sending the Soviet Air Force bomb Berlin. It appears that the true battle had not yet begun however. |
