As Britain and America liberated Belgium, it was immediately given back it's own government. The only problem with this that the Belgian king was being held prisoner by Germany. He had been transferred to Austria days before the liberation of Belgium.

Belgium decided to temporarily give the throne to the King's brother. When the King finally did return it took from 1945, when he returned, to 1950, before the government allowed the nation to decide on who should be king. This threw the nation into near civil war. So the king decided to abdicated the throne to his son.

Belgium seems to be on the path to a peaceful and prosperous future.
