Hitler had a plan to start war long before he was in any position of power to use it. First, he needed to destroy the Treaty of Versailles and the annexation of all German-speaking countries into the Reich. He would need to take over France and Soviet Union while getting an alliance with Britain and Italy. Mussolini would be easily swayed to the Germans side until Hitler started the annihilation of the Jews. Before Hitler would start war, he needed to rebuild the small army made by the Treaty of Versailles. His first move was to make a treaty with Russia called the German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact that "guaranteed" neither country would attack the other. His next step is the most disturbing; he withdrew Germany from the League of Nations in the same year. Hitler decided he needed to have a quick war when war came so he signed a Non-aggression Pact with Poland in 1935. The same year, Germany began their massive rearmament. He announced that he would add 36 new divisions to Germany’s Armed Forces. The end of hope came in 1936 when Germany marched into the demilitarized Rhineland. The Treaty of Versailles was dead as neither France nor Britain lifted a finger to fight back. Hitler was ecstatic at the news that his former enemies left him complete alone. In 1937, Hitler gathered his general staff and informed them to prepare for war no later than 1942 or 1943. War was in the air. Hitler needed to cover his true intentions so he did many different speeches saying how much he really wanted peace. All he wanted was Germany to have its rightful place in the World Affair. Hitler could hardly wait however to begin the next Great War. |
