| The Invasion of Sicily |
The Royal Navy of Great Britain is positioning itself in the Mediterranean Sea. The Allies are moving towards OPERATION HUSKY. From our Intel it seems to be that OPERATION HUSKY is an invasion on Sicily, Italy. This invasion is just a huge stepping stone to taking over Italy completely.
The Allies were four hours away from the Straight of Gibraltar when they were issued gas masks and flash proof clothing and goggles. I believe that the Allies will have serious problems landing in Sicily from the air. All British paratroops and gliders have been blown off by a storm. Another disaster has arisen with Allied Warships mistakenly shooting down some of the Allied Airplanes thinking that they were German Airplanes. In this whole attack Italy didn't help protect itself and let Germany fight the war for them. By July 15th the Allies had pushed the Italians and Germans out of the southeastern tip of Sicily. July 22nd is very close to today and the Allies seem to be heading to Palermo to take it over. German reinforcements have arrived and they have begun to defend Sicily. The General of this defense is Hans Hube. In late July the Allies are trying to take over Mount Etna but their advance was stopped by the Germans. The Allies have been constantly trying to get their connections back with Asia through the Suez Canal. The Axis commander in Sicily at this time is General Alfred Guzzoni. He has a force of 200,000 German-Italian soldiers.
At 8:45 pm the radar picked up something twenty-two miles away. It has turned out to be a squadron of enemy planes. At 9:20 pm they were only twenty-eight miles from a Sicily according to the radar. A few minutes later Birmingham was hit by an explosion that lit up the night's sky. The damage count included one of the Birmingham's planes being destroyed. After this we all found out that it was just one of our fighter plane's flares. It is now 10:25 pm and the transport planes are just now traveling towards Sicily to drop off all 250 troops. When they landed they knew that the Italians knew their exact location. The Combined Chiefs of Staff have ordered General Eisenhower to invade Sicily.
The time is 4:10 am and the battle is raging on the beaches of Sicily. The invasion has finally begun. The city of Syracuse was attacked today by the British Eighth Army. The American Seventh Army landed some miles west. General Guzzoni didn't see the landings until it was too late. The Navel Allies tricked him into believing that the Allies were going to attack Western Sicily. But instead they attacked the eastern border. The Western Part of Sicily was just a decoy of Air Craft Carriers. At this same time the Fleet of American, and British ships are attacking the western part of Sicily with all of their Naval resources. All the Air Craft are trying to locate the area of the Fleet and the soldiers but can't because they are hampered with darkness.
