In 1933, the government set up by the Allies of World War I gave way to Hitler and his Third Reich. All of the opponents of the Nazis suddenly disappeared or were sent to concentration camps. Now that the opponents were gone, Hitler turned towards the inside party opponents. On the "Night of Long Knives", over one hundred leading Nazis were murdered by Hitler so to clear the way for his ascent to power. The time came in 1934 when President Hindenburg died, Hitler declared himself Reichprasident or Empire President. The beginning of the end for the Treaty of Versailles had begun with the moment Hitler took power. Hitler had succeeded in his ultimate goal. He had climbed his way to the top. |
