As the tide began to turn against Germany, groups started to believe that maybe Hitler was no the man they wanted as their leader. The first two groups to oppose him were the Socialists and Communists. Most of these groups were mad at Hitler for the mass executions of the Russians and Russian Jews. Hitler also had no believe that these two parties even excised. Socialists, who were responsible for smuggling many different Jews out of Germany. Communism was pronounced dead in Germany but were not arrested as they did acknowledgement that Hitler rule. Three opposition groups where inside the same government as Hitler himself. One was the military. Even Hitler's own Chief-of-Staff said that it was Hitler's fault that they had been brought into this horrible war anyway. The military then began plans to imprison and executed Hitler. As the war started, the leader of the Military Intelligence Agency was a anti-nazi. He filled as many high positions with other anti-nazis and it was them that leaked information to Britain that Germany was going to attack Poland. Some even went as far as to communicate their plan to capture Hitler to the Allies. Hitler quickly found out who they where and began to punish them. Only two escaped death but were imprisoned. The second group, the Kreisau, was led by the nephew of World War I hero, Helmut Von Moltke. This group was made up of anti-Nazi politicians that wanted to abolish the Nazi Party and bring back a "legally and morally just" Germany. In 1942 "Operation Valkyrie", an operation to do away with Hitler and establish a Socialist Government. Both the Socialists and Koreas were responsible for smuggling Jews into neighboring nations. They realized how outnumbered they were when their Operation failed and they joined the Socialists to assassinate Hitler. Hitler wouldn't leave his headquarters from 1942 on; making it very difficult to assassinate him. In 1943, two attempts to kill Hitler failed. In the first, the bomb did not go off correctly and the other Hitler left the building before the bomb went off. Immediately after Moltke was arrested and his group on hiding. The remaining members decided to try one last attempt on Hitler. On July 20, 1944 Hitler was attending a conference when a briefcase that was holding a bomb underneath the table blew up. Hitler was protected from the blast from the table and he immediately was taken to a hospital. Kreisau, thinking Hitler was dead tried to seize power and were then killed after. |
