The
next great military activity in Belgium was the Battle of the Bulge. It
began on December 16, 1944. It was what seems to be the last great offense
of the German army. The Allies were divided in half to the north and south
of the very spot the Germans planned to attack. The Germans were able to
quickly encircle the Allies due to the fact that the weather was able to
hold back the Allied Air Force. But as the weather cleared up, they were
quickly able to drive back the Germans.
The other main front of this battle was at the town of Bastonge. Few Allied troops were at the town when the Germans demanded that they surrender. Allied reinforcements where on the way though so they decided to try and hold out on the Germans. The day after Christmas, the reinforcements arrived and relived the battle weary troops of Bastonge. The Germans were quickly defeated and sent home. It appears that very little protects Berlin from the advancing army.
