After the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, the United States had entered the war and had helped the Allies start to turn the tide of the war. Despite the United States entering the war, Churchill, British leader, Roosevelt, America's leader, and Stalin had never meet. Finally in late 1943, in the Iran capital of Tehran, the Big Three finally meet.

The main issue of the meeting was when the Cross-Channel invasion would take place. Stalin wanted it as soon as possible as to tie up even more of Hitler's troops. Churchill wanted to keep the attack coming from the south. Yet Stalin was able to sway Roosevelt to agree with him because Stalin promised that when Germany was defeated, they would help in the war in the Pacific.

As soon as the conference was over, Stalin was ready to defeat the Germans still in Soviet territory.
