Elections were then held in Austria for the vacated position and Hitler wanted a Nazi in the office. The standing fill-in said that no Nazi would ever be the chancellor of Austria. The Nazi candidate declared himself chancellor and ordered German soldiers across the border. Austria was now in control of Germany.

Now that Austria was in control, Czechoslovakia was moved to the top of the to-do list. The Czechs were nervous about the soldiers that were now where very close to their own borders. So they made a treaty with Russia. Then they mobilized all of their own soldiers to protect their part of the border. Hitler was very displeased by this action as he saw Czechoslovakia as an air base to attack Russia from. The event that put Hitler over the top was the announcement from France and Britain that they would defend Czechoslovakia.

Hitler told his staff that Czechoslovakia would be under German control by October 1st, 1938. He started making speeches to the Czechs people to against their own government. The Czech leader confronted Hitler and Hitler demanded that the Czech leader give up up all of his land. The leader signed the treaty which soon lead to their demise since other countries made their own demands. Czechoslovakia fell apart, causing Hitler's demands to be neglected. Hitler, furious, said he would invade unless given what he wanted he wanted by September 28. Czechoslovakia, France, and Britain all mobilized at this threat. A conference was held between France, Britain, Germany, and France where the Munich Pact was signed. This said that Hitler was given 50% of Czechoslovakia and the other remained Czechoslovakia. Hitler, after getting what he wanted Hitler annex the rest and moved troops in. His last act before war was soon to come.
