Dominico Trapasso, My Great Grandfather
As told by Elizabeth Munde

Dominico Trapasso, my great grandfather came to America from Gimigliano, Italy.  He came for more money and a better life.  The only money he had was $50.  He came on March 2, 1913 on the ship called Franconia.  He was fourteen and single.

When he got here he met his brother Giuseppe who had come before.  They lived in Brooklyn and Dominico worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard loading and unloading ships.  At that time immigrants were eager to become Americanized as soon as possible.  My great grandfather changed his name from Dominico to Dominic and his brother changed his name from Giuseppe to Joseph.  They both struggled to learn English very quickly and to lose their accents so they would fit in and not be labeled as "greaseballs".

Giuseppe and Dominico met two nice Italian sisters named Anna and Vincentina and married them.  Both families loved to cook big dinners on Sundays and families would gather around the table and spend the whole day eating and drinking.  In fact, they loved to cook so much that Anna and Giuseppe opened their own Italian restaurant.  They used to brag that the Brooklyn Dodgers would come to their house to eat!
