Irish Soda Bread

I made Irish Soda Bread for my class. It tastes like a biscuit with raisins. You may think Irish Soda Bread has soda you drink in it. It is actually a coincidence. The reason the soda is there is because of the baking soda that makes it rise.

What you will need

An oven
Small cookie sheet
Large bowl
Pastry blender or fork
Measuring cups
Fork
Pastry cloth or flour board
Wire rack
Brush for baking

Ingredients you will need

2 cups all-purpose
2 tablespoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
3 tablespoons of butter that is softened
1/2 cup of seedless raisins
1 cup of butter milk
1 tablespoon of butter that is melted

Steps

Preheat oven to 375degrees F. Lightly grease a small cookie sheet.
In a large bowl, sift flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Cut in butter with pastry blender (you can also use a fork) until the mixture looks like fine crumbs. Add the raisins.
Add the buttermilk; mix with fork only until dry ingredients are moistened
Turn out into lightly floured pastry cloth or board. Bread gently until smooth. Shape into ball. Place onto prepared cookie sheet flatten into 7 inch circle (Dough will be about 1 1/2 inches thick.) Press large floured knife into center of loaf halfway. Repeat at right angle to divide loaf into quarters.
Bake 30-40 minutes or until top is golden.
Remove to wire rack to cool. Brush top with melted butter. Serve and enjoy.
