This is a picture of my family in 1995.
This is a montage of my family.

I'm Bing Li. I'm going to tell you about when I first immigrated here.

I came here from China. In China, I worked as a telephone operator. But my family was poor. So I immigrated to the U.S. seeking a better life.
I got here by airplane in 1986. I lived in Jackson Heights, New York with my family. I missed my friends, but I happy to be in a new country. My goal was to live and raise a family here. I didn't know much English and sometimes I was mocked. My aunt gave me money when I first arrived in the U.S. and I got a job sewing clothes. Then one day, I read about a non-profit organization called Manpower in the newspaper. It helped me get a different and better job. I then worked as an office clerk for the Bank of New York.
In 1987, I went back to China and got married. I came back soon afterward. In 1992, I became a U.S. citizen. I was so proud of myself. In 1994, I went back to China to visit my mother-in-law. Three weeks later, I came back here.

I now live in Queens, New York. I sometimes visit my mother who lives in Elmhurst, New York. I keep in touch with my friends by calling them over the telephone. I still don't speak English very well, but I have fulfilled my goal.
