Many Chinese people are poor. They can't afford their own cars. Then how do the Chinese people get around the city? How do farmers transport food?
You're going to China for the vacation. You've got a plan all the places
you're going to visit but there is one problem: Once you are there, how
are you going to get around? People in China have the same methods of transportation
as Americans, but people in China use taxis more than Americans.
Cars are very expensive and most people can't afford one. Bicycles
are a popular way to get from one place to another. There are apartment
houses that have parking spaces for bicycles. Even farmers use bicyles
to transport vegetables, if possible. If the distance is too far,
then the Chinese rely on taxis to take them where they want. Taxis are
not as expensive to take as they are in New York City.
If somebody is not using a bicycle or a car, he will most likely use a
bus. Buses are very inexpensive (most of the time a dollar or two, equal
to about 25 cents in America). Most people usually use a bus.
Transport of food is by truck, and only by train if in very large quantities.
Mass transit in China is very popular because it is a necessity.
It's the easiest way to get around if you are not riding a bike or taking
a taxi.
