Make a Heritage Mural

Materials:
paint
brushes
white roles of paper large enough to extend several feet

pencils and Lots of erasers
transparencies
erasible (Vis a Vis) markers for use on transparencies
family photos
Overhead projector and screen

Procedure:
Students place a transparency over a photograph.
Trace (using marker) the photo, using fine point markers for facial details.
Do not color in, but write colors on areas of clothing (if photo is color)
Tape paper on to a wall the size you wish your mural to be.
Place transparency on overhead projector, and project onto the paper.
Trace the figure onto the paper (in pencil) writing down colors of areas to be filled in by paint.
Repeat this procedure with each transparency of family photographs until all murals have the required sketches.
Organize groups of students to paint the murals.  Leave areas blank for facial features to be filled in later with fine brushes or marker.
