The difference between South and North opinion of slavery led to the American Civil War, the bloodiest war ever on the American soil. Civil War was horrible for all involved. It made families and friends fight against each other. After years of fighting and more than half million dead, the Union won and the slavery in America ended. African Americans fought in American wars since colonial times. They helped bring independence to the colonies. But the Civil War was the most important war for black people. It was the war that was fought to end slavery forever. By the end of the war more than 30,000 black soldiers died.
