Judge Cohen

Mike: How many years
did you have to go to school?
Judge Cohen: I had to go for 4 years in college and 3 years in law school.
Mike: How many degrees
do you have? What are the degrees called?
Judge Cohen: I have 2 degrees that I can think of. I have a BA and a JD.
Mike: How many years
have you been a judge?
Judge Cohen: I've been a judge for 12 years going on 13
Mike: Have you ever
worked in any other courts?
Judge Cohen: Yes I have worked in other courts.
Mike: What are your
regular working hours?
Judge Cohen: My hours vary depending on what I have to do but roughly I
would say 5 to about 8 or 9, 1 to 2 days a week.
Mike: Why did you want
to become a judge?
Judge Cohen: As a lawyer it was a logical progression in law. This was a
very nice move because many lawyers strive to be judges but never become
one.
Mike: What do you find
most rewarding about being a judge?
Judge Cohen: Doing justice is the 1st most rewarding thing. I also fell
rewarded when I feel like I am doing something for the community that is
good.
Mike: How can children
prepare themselves to be a judge?
Judge Cohen:
· Going to court
· Being interested in law
· Not breaking the law
· Being involved in the community.
Mike: What is the hardest
part about being a judge?
Judge Cohen: The 1st hardest thing is being uncertain about what the right
thing to do is. Also sending someone to jail that shouldn't have to serve
time.
Mike: What kind of
judge are you?
Judge Cohen: I am a Town/Local court judge, all crimes that take place in
the town, all traffic offenses, all town code violations, law suits that
do not exceed $3,000.
