Hatshepsut

Hatshepsut's stone mask

Hatshepsut ruled between the years 1497 B.C. and 1458 B.C. Hatshepsut's temple is set into the cliffs at Deir el-Bahri (DARE el-BAH-ree), Egypt near the modern day city of Luxor, which in ancient times was called Thebes. The temple was dedicated to the god Amun (AH-moon). Queen Hatshepsut ruled Egypt for over 20 years during the 15th century B.C. Hatshepsut is often called the "only female pharaoh " even though there were a few others. Hatshepsut was the daughter of Pharaoh Thutmose I and became a widow when her half brother, Thutmose II died. Hatshepsut was crowned King of Egypt. Hatshepsut was ancient Egypt's only successful female king. Hatshepsut died in February in the 22nd year of her reign as pharaoh.

Weird, yet true

Hatshepsut was crowned King not Queen of Egypt.
