The Egyptians lived in houses
made of mud brick. The slaves that worked for the pharaoh, simple
farmers, and craftsmen would live in these type of houses. These
houses were whitewashed to reflect the sun. The Egyptians built their
houses with the wall sloping inward to make them strong enough to
resist floods and earthquakes. These houses had extremely tiny
windows to keep the people cool during the hot desert day. The small
windows kept the heat from entering the house.

Wealthy ancient Egyptians would live in multi-room villas. These larger versions of the houses described above were where the richer people lived. The villas had many rooms. Some of the different rooms in a villa were bedrooms, storerooms, workshops, kitchens, and stables. Some villas even had bathrooms with shower areas. The pharaoh would live in a huge palace that was even bigger than a villa.
