Food

The Egyptians grew all of their food. Egypt rarely gets any rain so they had to wait for the Nile River to overflow each year. When the Nile River overflowed, it brought new rich soil to the land along the river and lots of water. The Egyptians learned how to make irrigation ditches to get water to the fields further away from the Nile. These ditches were also used to get water to the fields after most of the flood waters had dried up. The foods the Egyptians ate the most were grapes, dates, figs, palm tree fruits, pomegranates, and bread. In their fields, the farmers grew a lot of barley. The barley was used to make bread and beer. Most people made their own bread and beer.
