There were many animals in ancient Egypt. We chose the animals below for different reasons. The cat was the Egyptians favorite pet. Jackals were associated with the god Anubis, mummification, and the afterlife. Both cobras and Nile crocodiles were dangerous animals to be avoided. The cobra was also associated with the pharaoh and his power over his enemies.
