Summary: When Johnny Dixon's friend Fergie (Byron Ferguson) steals a mysterious book from the library, called The Book of True Wishes, strange things start to happen. First, Fergie runs away from his friends, Johnny and Professor Roderick Childermass. Then Fergie hears eerie bells that no one else can hear. Fergie also has dreams that seem real. In these dreams, the ghost of a boy tries to warn him of something... but what? Fergie uses the book, which he has learned to fear, to make a wish. A strange man, Jarmyn Thanatos, gives him lessons in reading the mysterious book. Fergie finds himself losing control of his body more and more every night after he has the lessons.

Fergie no longer trusts his friends, Johnny and Professor Childermass, who are trying to help. To their horror, Johnny and Professor Childermass discover the terrible truth... Fergie has been taken over by an evil wizard who will stop at nothing to gain immortality. Suddenly Fergie is missing. Johnny, the professor and Sarah Channing are the only ones who can save Fergie now. It will take all of their wits and bravery to survive. Is poor Fergie doomed to lose his youth to this madman? What will become of Fergie's family? Is this the end for all of them? You will have to read the book to find out.

This book tells how a good friend stands by his friend at all times.
