The first Canadians walked across a land bridge from Asia.  Can you imagine walking thousands of miles and not knowing what you would find when you got there?

The Eskimos came after the very first Canadians, who traveled south after they got to Canada.

Hello!  (or Bonjour!)  My name is Rachel.  I am a 10-year-old CN Tower kid in Toronto, Canada.  Canada is a country that covers most of  the north half of North America.  It is the second largest country in the world.  Our name, Canada,  probably comes from kanata-kon, an Iroquois Indian word that means to the village or to the small houses. I want to tell you about how we live here in my country.

Mountains in AlbertaSimilar to the way the United States is divided into states, Canada is divided into ten provinces and two territories.   Toronto is a city in the province of Ontario, but there are other provinces too.  These are Yukon, Saskatchewan, Quebec, Prince Edward Island,  Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Manitoba, British Columbia and Alberta.  Because we are such a big country, we have beautiful mountains, plains, rivers, lakes, and waterfalls.     The Yukon Territory

Everyday my brother Andrew and I go to school at 9:00.  I hate getting up at 8:00 in the morning!  When we finally do get up, we need to eat breakfast and walk to school.

At school we learn about Native Canadians, such as the Map of CanadaMicmacs.  Did you know the Micmacs ate raw moose?  We also need to learn French, because Canada is not only English, but also a French-speaking country.  Of course, we also learn reading, writing, science, and math.

During recess I usually play kickball.  My brother's favorite sport is baseball.  I love gymnastics, but I obviously can't play gymnastics at school- there are no grassy areas on the playground.

School ends at 3:30.  Andrew and I walk back home.  I need to get at my homework right away, because I sure have a lot!

For dinner we're having tossed salad and spaghetti andPizza meatballs-my favorite!  Some of my other favorite foods are salmon and of course, pizza!  My favorite after-school snack is butter biscuits and a glass of water.  We eat bread or potatoes at most meals and hot soup is a favorite at lunch and dinner.

After dinner I can just relax and do what I want.  My favorite hobby is going for a boat-ride with dad.  Sometimes I go to the park.

I hope you enjoyed learning about my life.

Good-bye!  (Or Adieu!)
