Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest hero's that every lived in America.  He helped the African slaves become free in America.Abraham Lincoln

Abraham was born on February 12, 1809 in a log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky.  As a kid he barely went to school.  His mother died when he was only nine.  He moved several times after that.  When he was old enough be on his own, he got into law.  In 1842 he married Mary Todd and had four sons.

After having smaller, less important government jobs, he became the President of the United States of America.  During his presidency, the southern states wanted to become a different country because the northern states (Lincoln agreed with them) wanted to stop slavery but the southern states wanted slavery.  The war between the states was called the Civil War. Union Soldier The first two years the southern states (Confederate) won almost every battle.  On July 1st, 1863 the northern states (Union) won one of the greatest fights at Gettysburg.  After the battle Lincoln said the "Gettysburg Address.".  This battle was one of the bloodiest battles in the Civil War.  During the same time General Grant, who was the commander of all the the union armies, won at Vicksburg.  During that same year, Lincoln made the Emancipation Proclamation which freed three million slaves.  During the next two years, it was opposite of the first two years.  In Lincoln's second term Robert. E Lee, who was the commander of all the the confederate armies, surrendered to Grant on April 9, 1865.

Five days after that Lincoln went to see a play.  While he was watching it,  a man named John Wilkes Booth shot him.  Abraham Lincoln died the next morning which  was April 15, 1865. pistol To this day Americans and many others remember him as one of the greatest heroes of all time.
