When you sing the Lakota Flag Song you treat the flag with respect.
The men/boys sing the first part of the Flag Song, then the women/girls come in on Iyohlate.
We sing the Lakota Flag Song when we are honoring
someone, at powwows, at ceremonies, and sometimes at wakes and
funerals. My Lakota teacher Mrs. Black Bull taught me how to sing the
Lakota Flag Song and many more Lakota songs.
