What do xerophiles do?
Xerophiles are responsible for spoiling food, even the dry foods. Since xerophiles are able to live in extremely dry environments, they have to problem reproducing and creating enzymes that will break down foods that are stored in dry conditions. Xerophiles are know to spoil foods such as stored grains, spices, nuts and oilseeds. Some xerophiles spoil salty foods, and others spoil sugary foods. Companies that produce liquors and beers, sugary treats like cinnamon rolls and cakes, or soft drinks all have trouble controlling spoilage by xerophiles.
