The area of white/gray shows the region that is forecast to have significant clouds, and the red area within the clouds represents the area where ice can form on aircraft as they fly through the cloud. This model shows how the wind moves in the middle atmosphere.

When air temperatures are already cold and the wind begins to blow, then the air feels and acts colder than it really is. The wind chill index chart shows how cold it is when the wind is blowing.
