When sea otters come up to breathe their noses and eyes are up high to see better and breathe better.

The sea otter's hind legs are webbed like duck feet. Whiskers help otters to feel their way through the muddy water. The sea otter's fur is not always the same color (brown) because some old males can have white fur.

Their fur keeps them warm in the winter. Their dense fur has up to a one million hairs per square inch to keep them warm in the cold water. They have 2 layers of hair. Sea otter's guard-hairs are up to 34 mm to 36 mm long! Sea otters have an under-fur that is up to 19 mm to 20 mm long.

Sea otters eat clams, crabs, sea urchins, shellfish, sea snails, abalone, and squid. Sea otters hunt for some of their food on the ocean floor. Otters take their food to the surface and also bring a rock. On the surface, they float on their back and break open their food on their belly using the rock.

The sea otter lives in the Pacific Ocean in giant kelp forests. Sea otters sleep in kelp on top of the water - a sea otter water bed!

Family groups are called rafts. Babies are called pups. When the pup drinks, it floats on the surface. The mother gives birth in the ocean.

Sea otters roll around doing somersaults while playing. Sea otters are very agile when they swim. They do a lot of twists and turns.
