West of the Nile river in Egypt is the Wonders Pyramid Hill. This is were the mysterious pyramids are. At the edge of this hill is the stone creature called the Sphinx. This is a statue of a lion with a human head. It seems to guard the entrance to the Hill.
Just one of the giant blocks they used to build the pyramids weighed 2 to 15 tons. The pyramids needed almost 2,500,000 blocks. These pyramid blocks were made of limestone.
The Greatest pyramid ever was built by an Egyptian king named Khufu. Later the Greeks named him Cheops. Today this fabulous pyramid is known as the tomb of Cheops. This huge pyramid stands in Giza with many other smaller pyramids. The pyramid of Cheops is the oldest.
