The Nile

As you probably know, the Nile is the longest river in the world. It is about 4, 145 miles. The Nile flows North. It deposits silt along its banks. From the Nile's major source, Lake Victoria in East Central Africa, the White Nile flows North through Uganda and into Sudan where it meets the Blue Nile in Ethiopian highlands. Where the White Nile and Blue Nile meet, the Nile river continues to flow northwards into Egypt and onto the Mediterranean Sea.

From Lake Victoria to the Mediterranean Sea, the length of the Nile is 3,470 miles long. From its most remote head stream, the Ruvyironza river in Burundi, the Nile is 4,145 miles long. From Khartoum, the Nile flows northeast. 200 miles below Khartoum, it is joined by the Afbarah river. The black sediment brought down by Afbarah and Blue Nile delta making it very fertile.
