Most people know what the Internet is, but not everyone knows its history. No, Al Gore did not create the Internet. The Internet was invented in the 1960's by the U.S. Department of Defense. Internet was because they wanted a computer network that could continue to function in a disaster like a nuclear war. If part of the network were damaged or destroyed, the rest of the system still had to work.

The network was Arpanet, which linked U.S. scientific and academic researchers. It was the forerunner of today's Internet. In 1989 CERN created the first Internet system with a WWW browser, and it was further refined by Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau in 1990. This internet system was released in 1991 to the high energy physics community, so that a whole range of Universities and research laboratories could start to use it. A little later the Internet was made generally, available especially to the community of people working on hypertext systems. By the beginning of 1993 there were around 50 known information servers. Today the internet is booming. Any info you need is right there and it's a way of communication. The internet is definetl one of the worlds greatest inventions.
