The griffen, griffion, gryphon, are among the most beautiful of magical creatures.  Gryphons have the head, forelegs and wings of a eagle.  The gryphon also has the hindquarters, tail and occasionally the ears of a lion.  They are symbols of strength and vigilance and have been called “The Hounds of Zeus.”
