Events

Many events happened during the 70s from the return of the Apollo 13, to the Watergate Scandle, and then the happy ending of the Vietnam War.

On April 17, 1970, Apollo 13 returned to Earth. James Lovell, John Swigert, and Fred Haise were on board the spacecraft for 5 days. What started as a regular mission turned out to be a life or death situation almost ending in disaster.

Have you ever heard of the Watergate Scandle? Over that, Nixon resigned. His campaign manager set up spy cameras to help Nixon win his reelection, and Nixon never tried to stop it.

Another big event in the 70s was the end of the Vietnam War. The war lasted 15 years and a lot of lives were lost over it. Nobody won the war, but Vietnam was reunited.

For the United States, the 70s was also a time of celebration. July 4, 1976 was the 200th anniversery of the country. Only one year after the Vietnam War, you wouldn't think there would be that much celebration.

Elvis died on August 16, 1977. He was found dead in his bathroom at his home in Graceland. He was only 42 years old when he died. He was believed to have died of a drug overdose.
