Tips from Chad Foster
Chad Foster is a very experienced fly-fisherman. In fact, he has his own show on ESPN. He came to talk to our school a while back. We started talking to him about fly-fishing, and asked him a few questions. Here are a few things that he had to say :
Q: What are the most memorable fishing experiences that you have had?
A: Well, I have hosted "Fly-Fishing America" on ESPN for six years. Then I had my dad on the show as a guest, and another time I had my wife, Paige, as a guest. These were my most memorable experiences because I was able to fish and spend time with loved ones.
Q: What is the largest trout you have ever caught? Where?
A: I caught an eleven pound brown trout on the Frying Pan River in Basalt, Colorado!(check it out, it is the picture at the top)
Q: What is some advice that you would give to a rookie fly-fisherman?
A: "Rookies" definitely need to take fly-fishing so that they don't develop bad habits that are going to be hard to break later on. Fly-fishing is a skill, just like any other, it must be practiced in order to improve. My other focus would be to have fun in the outdoors, rather than how many fish you catch.
Q: One last question, how long have you been fly-fishing?
A: I learned to fly fish when I was in middle school in Louisiana. My father taught me just like his father had taught him many years before.
