History of the Pentagon
Did you know that the Pentagon has no elevators? And that the
steel that was going to be used for an elevator was used for a battleship instead?
In 1941, during World War II, war offices were "scattered" across
Washington, D. C. There were 17 in all, the Pentagon being one of them. They
were designed by 400 architects and completed on January 15, 1943, only 16 months
after starting construction. The Pentagon, though only 5 stories high, has 3x
as much space as the Empire State Building. All in all, the Pentagon is a wonderful
building with a very interesting history.
