The Cottonwood is the state tree of Wyoming. If you look at it from an angle, it looks a little like a human being. This tree is a poplar. They grow quickly and are very good, shady trees, but these trees live a very short time. In early spring, their branches start to droop near the ground. Then they form masses of cottony seeds. The leaves from these trees are shaped like a triangle and have sharp-toothed, wavy leaves.
The eastern Cottonwood grows mostly in the eastern part of the United States. The dark brown bark from this tree splits into ridges and long furrows.
