West Virginia's Tree

Tree Name: Sugar Maple
Scientific Name: Acer saccharum
Year Made State Tree: 1949

Many people think of the sugar maple as a tree of the Northeast,  which is famous for maple sugar.  West Virginians, however, know better. The sugar maple's sap, leaves, and valuable timber have made it a popular tree in West Virginia as well as in the Northeast and upper Midwest.
