West Virginia's Flag

Year made State flag: 1929

West Virginia's flag shows the state's coat of arms against a white field with a blue border. Rosebay rhododendron, the state flower forms a wreath around a picture of two figures. One represents mining. The other represents farming. Two rifles and a liberty cap lie on the ground in front of the figures, symbolizing West Virginia's willingness to fight for freedom.  A rock between the men the men bears the date of West Virginia's statehood, June 20, 1863. The state coat of arms was created that same year.
