West Virginia created a new standard-issue plate in 1996 with the slogan "Wild, Wonderful" centered at the bottom. This phrase also appears on plates for the disabled and optional scenic plates. In addition to the scenic plates, special versions for veterans, National Guard members and university fans are available. West Virginia's governor may assign plate numbers 2 -2,000.  The number "1" and "ONE" are reserved for the Governor.
