Washington became the 42nd state on November 11, 1889. It is an exciting state with an interesting background. Washington is also known as the Evergreen State. Its capital is Olympia. Washington produces many things like salmon, shellfish, lumber, wheat, apples, and potatoes. It even produces large aircraft!

Jonathan M. Wainwright was born in 1883. He was a brave child who was always responsible and fit to do any job. His hard work paid off after years of trying his best. Jonathan M. Wainwright became an American general.
Marcus Whitman was born in Rushville, New York. He practiced medicine for eight years. In 1836 he traveled to the Pacific Northwest with his wife, Narcissa, and other missionaries and friends. Their trail began in Independence, Missouri. The Whitmans founded a mission near Walla Walla, Washington.
