James Strom Thurmond has been involved in many things. Born in Edgefield, this man is very active even though he is one year away from triple digits. Born in 1902, he became a state senator in 1933 and ended his term in 1938. He has been a circuit judge, a governor, and is now a U.S. senator. He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1946.
Thomas Sumter was a Revolutionary War officer. He organized a band of mounted rangers. After the fall of Charleston, he was elected general of a partisan band. He opposed the ratification of the U.S. constitution.
