Willa Sibert Cather was a very popular author.  She moved to Nebraska from Virginia when she was 10 years old.  Most of her stories are about the Old West. One of them won the Pulitzer Prize. 

William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody started in the field when he was 9.  Later he became a scout, buffalo hunter,  and a showman.  He was in his first rodeo in North Platte, Nebraska.
