Montana's state flag picture's the official seal against a blue field.
"Montana" appears in gold capital letters across the top.
Montana's seal was created in 1864, when Montana was still a territory.
The design shows mountain scenery typical of western Montana and the Great
Falls of the Missouri River. The picture doesn't show pioneers, but
it shows their implements --a plow, shovel, and pick. The Spanish
words on a banner, "Oro y plata," are the state motto, "Gold and Silver".
